Marketing for service businesses

Marketing for service businesses that live on inquiries.

Cleaning, moving, trades, clinics, law, accounting, real estate. This page covers the whole picture: how Google, Facebook/Instagram and the landing page work together. If it’s only Google Ads you’re wondering about, read Google Ads for service businesses.

Short answer: A service business gets the most new customers by being visible when someone searches for the service (Google Ads and the Google Business Profile), by having a landing page that makes it easy to call or send a form, and by being remembered locally before the need arises (Facebook and Instagram). Start with inquiry tracking and Google, and add Meta once Google is profitable.

How Google, Meta and the landing page fit together.

This is the order we set up new clients in. Each step builds on the one before.

1

Be there when they search

Google Ads on “service + city” and a complete Google Business Profile with reviews. Someone searching “flyttevask Oslo” (move-out cleaning Oslo) has decided to buy, and chooses among the first results. The Google Ads part in detail, with tracking, bidding and account structure: Google Ads for service businesses.

2

Make it easy to get in touch

One page per service with a price or price estimate, phone number, reviews and a short form early on the page. The conversion rate feeds straight into the cost per inquiry: at the same cost per click, a 10% conversion rate gives leads half as expensive as 5%.

3

Be remembered before they need you

Facebook and Instagram with real photos and video of your work, shown to people in your area, plus retargeting of those who visited the page. Meta needs around 50 inquiries a week per ad set to exit the learning phase, so local accounts should have few, broad ad sets. More on Facebook advertising.

What service businesses ask us.

How does a service business get more customers?+
Be there when the customer searches (Google Ads on service + city and a complete Google Business Profile), make it easy to get in touch (price, phone and form early on the page), and be remembered locally before the need arises (Facebook and Instagram with real photos and video of your work). Measure everything on inquiries, not clicks.
Google Ads or Facebook for a service business?+
Google first if people search for your service, like a plumber, dentist or move-out cleaning. Meta first if customers need to see the service before they know they want it, like aesthetic treatments. Most should have both, in that order.
What does it cost to get a new customer?+
It varies by industry and city. At Utvendig Renhold an inquiry cost NOK 163 on average over 90 days (June–Sept 2026) including branded searches, but between NOK 145 and 341 from region to region for the same service. Whether that’s cheap depends on the value: if a customer is worth NOK 5,000 in margin and one in three inquiries buys, you can afford around NOK 1,650 per inquiry.
How much should a service business spend on advertising?+
Work backwards from what an inquiry is worth, and make sure each campaign gets enough data. Google needs around 15–30 conversions a month for smart bidding to work. We work with established businesses with an ad budget of at least NOK 30,000 a month. If your budget is smaller, start with one service in one area on Google.
Is Facebook advertising worth it for local businesses?+
Yes, when the content is real (your work, your people), the geography is tight and the ad is measured on bookings or forms. Boosting a post is something else: then Meta optimizes for likes and views, not inquiries. Here’s how to do it right.
What is the difference between this page and Google Ads for service businesses?+
This page covers the whole setup: Google, Facebook/Instagram and the landing page. Google Ads for service businesses goes in depth on Google Ads only: tracking, bidding and account structure.
What does Arcads cost?+
We take a share of the value we create for you, not a fixed monthly fee. If you don’t earn more, you pay us nothing. For this to work for both sides, the ads need to create enough value for our share to come to around NOK 20,000–30,000 a month. That’s why we work with established businesses with an ad budget of at least NOK 30,000 a month. You pay the ad budget directly to Google and Meta. See the pricing page.
